Reasons Why, and Ways to Invoke Animal Totems: If you’ve been following this website for any length of time, you’ll know I’m a little rabid about connecting with our animal totems for the purpose of personal growth. Discovering, communicating and forming a relationship with the animal side of life is fundamental in becoming a whole human as well as creating harmonic balance on earth.

Yeppers, I think it’s that big of a deal. Animals are pure consciousness, and linking up with their energy rubs off on us in a pure, positive way. That’s why I’ve written so much, and given so many presentations on the importance of teaming up with our animal kin.

Ways to Invoke Animal Totems for Deeper Connection

This page on ways to invoke animal totems is yet another arrow in our quiver so we can hit the bullseye of understanding our animal guides and communicate with them (even through them, and they through us).

The primary factor in linking up and invoking your animal guide is to clean your own energy. Become as animals (birds, fish, etc) are…which is pure awareness, pure consciousness. Animals don’t have all the ego-driven gobbeldy-gook humans do, and we would be far better off to mimic that kind of clean slate where the overactive ego is concerned.

Set an Intention

While you’re in a conscious state of clean-consciousness and pure-awareness, begin to purposefully observe your environment at all times. This allows you to more easily invoke an animal spirit by mentally or verbally setting an intention that you wish to contact your animal totem, and then set about your daily routine, or go on a nature walk.

To set this intention before your walk or routine, simply say the following phrase, or use one of your own:
“As I go now on my way,
I affirm my animal totem show itself today.
I am thankful for this sight,
I receive this gift with delight.”

Okay, so that may sound a little dorky…I just quickly rattled something off…but you get my point.

The point is to set an intention to become in-tune with your animal guide. Be confident in the repetition of this or a similar phrase of intention. Confidence will inspire your animal totem to show itself to you as you go on your way through the day.

Acknowledge Its Presence

Your animal totem can show itself to you in several different ways. To identify its presence you will need to be observant, patient, and sensitive to your surroundings.

One way an animal totem will come to you is if you actually see an animal during your daily routine or nature walk that calls to you in some way. For example, if you see a red fox walking through a hedgerow during your morning commute after you set your intention to meet your animal totem – this is a potential totem for you.

How to confirm this? Ask the spirit of the animal that revealed itself to you. Be still, and the answer will come to you. It takes practice to be still and listen – but able to do this, your animal spirits will begin to confirm their presence to you, and serve as powerful totems in your life.

Invoke Animal Totems Through Mindfulness

In Native American Wisdom, totems were encountered when they set a similar intention while in a trance-like state or while journeying in nature. The animal totem would be revealed in the either physical form or in a vision.

Australian Aborigines go on “walk-about” and often encounter their personal animal totems during this purposeful, observant walk through the realm of nature.

Many cultures use invocation and purposeful observation to identify animal totems. The trick is to remain intent, patient, and observant as you expect your animal totem to reveal itself to you.

Don’t Overlook the Obvious Signs

Don’t eliminate obvious revelations either. Say, for example, you walk by a billboard every evening, and on it is a beautifully depicted octopus. You don’t know why, but it calls to you every time you see it. It draws you in, and even comforts you when you look upon it. This is a very big sign that an octopus is identifying itself as one of your animal totems.

In the final analysis, it’s been my experience that the animal kingdom/queendom serves as a compliment or partner to the human race. I’ll go a step further, and say that at the inception of life on this planet, humans and animals were symbiotic…teammates. It’s nothing more than errant thinking (and wayward ego’s) that forged a rift between human and animal.

The Last Word on How to Invoke Animal Totems

Ultimately, humans are designed to experience harmonic relationships with animals. We’re hard-wired to talk to them, and hear them when they speak to us. So when we invoke animal totems, it’s really quite natural, and totally do-able.

In fact, it’s an act of returning to our grass-roots…coming home…going back to the version of humanity we were meant to be…a divine child, innocent, wild and full of potential.

I think that’s what totemic living is all about – returning to ourselves as we were divinely designed.
