Insights Into the Question, “What is Numerology?”
This article seeks to explore the question “What is Numerology?” At its most basic, numerology is the study of numbers and their influence on our lives, but there is so much more potential. I love numerology because it’s a thread of understanding that can be pulled, and pulled and pulled – ad infinitum.
Part of the beauty in number meanings is that they exude vibrations that match up with our own. Meaning, numbers are like tuning forks….they slow down or speed up according to the level of our attention (the frequency or vibration of our thought).
Numerology offers so many facets to understanding a single event. In its esoteric form, numerology is the code cracker of our life experiences. Several branches of science contend the prime root of true reality can be narrowed down to numbers…as in ones and zeros. Granted, this may seem oversimplified, but there is some real merit to this view, and numerology encourages us to pay attention to the value behind numbers in our lives. This all begs the question, “What part of our lives is not touched by numbers?” Bingo.
All life can listen and speak in the language of numbers, and that’s why the study of numerology can offer an astoundingly diverse view into reality, consciousness, existence, and even everyday life. Numbers are a universal language. Amazingly, this is just the tip of the iceberg in numerology. Numbers can be oracles in our daily life too.
What is Numerology in Daily Life?
Name Numbers: Number enthusiasts will branch out in numerology by calculating the meaning of dates, times, and even names. Each letter of the alphabet resonates with a number (A=1, B=2, C=3, etc). By transcribing alpha characters into numerals, more meaning can be derived. This practice is used to determine name numerology. Name numbers are an expression of a person’s developed personality and a key to his/her ambition or achievements. The name number should be a compliment to his/her birth number. To obtain your name number, get the numerological assignments for each letter of your name, add them all together and reduce them.
Birth Numbers: A basic use of numerology is studying numbers in birth dates. And although it is true, tons of information can be gleaned from birth numbers – I think it might be a resource that’s too often overlooked. Birthday numerology represents the vibratory influence existing at the time of birth. As such, these numbers are determined in order for us to gain further knowledge on our individual being, and how we are affected by vibratory influences. You can determine your birth number by adding your month, day and year together and reducing it. For example, a person born on October 13, 1964 would determine their single number symbol by adding the following:1 + 1 + 3 + 1 + 9 + 6 + 4 = 25. Now: 2 + 5 = 7….this person’s birth number is 7.
Number Meanings in Time: Consecutive like numbers that show up repeatedly in our lives in the form of time, usually indicates our need or tendency to have everything in our lives put neatly into place or a need for control and stability in our lives. If we are looking at a clock (a symbolic representation of framework, or structure both in a dream and lucid symbolism) and see the same numbers all the time, first refer to the meaning of the numbers. Then take these meanings and apply them in terms of order and organization. For example, if the number one shows up, it’s symbolic of new beginnings…so this phenomenon might say something like, “is it time to get organized about starting something new?”
Number Symbolism in Literature: If you are encountering a series of visitations – the number holds significant meaning. A random example of this is found in the classic Dickens’ tale, A Christmas Carol in which Scrooge is visited three times. As if being visited by past, present and future ghosts weren’t prophetic enough, Scrooge could have factored the number three in his ruminations (and hence, his change of heart). Why? Because the number three is a creative number, and symbolic of transformation. The Bible is replete with tons of numerological debates, and there are scholars who are convinced the numbers in the Bible to contain a code or deeper meaning.
Numbers in Nature: We can consider groups of numbers for deeper knowledge. This is particularly true in nature where numbers seem to really sing the high notes in symbolic tunes. Our greatest oracles will come from the numbers in nature. To illustrate, encountering a certain number of animals on a nature walk can hold significant meaning, such as seeing four deer, or two hawks. The animals will have a message, to be sure, and their numbers will underscore that message. Nature is rife with numerological fodder. Consider the numbers of petals on a flower as an oracle or the meaning behind the five-leaf clover. Or, the number of individual clouds in the sky that catch your attention. Even the number of legs (8) on a spider is significant in meaning.
